HRLNG Action Plan

HRLNG Action Plan Update 9/8/2023

Our goal is to change the HOA/COA laws in all the states to protect and benefit the homeowners.

HOW:

  • Have hundreds, or better, thousands of people, write and phone our legislators asking them to incorporate our Proposed Legislation (https://dev.homeownersfightback.com) in the laws.

  • First we need to convince some of the legislators, ideally at least one Republican and one Democrat in the House and in the Senate to write BILLS to incorporate our Proposed Legislation into the laws.

  • Prewrite sample emails, then have those HOA homeowners email and phone the legislators convincing them to support the BILLS.

  • Also have those HOA homeowners contact large organizations like the National Association of Governors, National Association of Attorneys General, AARP, National Real Estate Association, etc., and convince them to help lobby for the BILLS.

  • How do we get that many people to write emails? How do we get large Organizations to support our Proposed Legislation?

How can YOU help to make this happen?

  • We can show you what to do, it is easy, but we need you to put in some effort.

  • In just a few minutes per day you can help to do one part of the effort. By working together as a team we can get accomplish our goals.

What would you be doing?

  • Can you post and comment on the internet? Then help us bring in more members.

  • Can you research on the internet? Then help us compile lists of all the legislators in each state.

  • Can you email and talk to legislators? Then join the Legislative Committee for your state.

  • Can you email and talk to leaders of large organizations? Then join our Large Organization and News committee.

  • Are you good at contacting and organizing other people, join our Leaders Committee and help us stay organized.

  • It is easy to get started, just contact Patrick@PK80.com or message Patrick Johansen, Carolyn Dunn Wefsenmoe or Dee Won and let us know you want to help.

Below is a list and description of each of the committees.

  • Please think about where your skills would be most helpful and which committee you would most enjoy working on.

  • We ask all our members to make a habit of working a few minutes per day on HRLNG.

  • As little as 15 minutes a day can make an amazing difference for you as well as all the people that live in HOAs in your State and across the country.

  • If you can’t do 15 minutes per day, do what you can. Every bit helps.

These are just a few of the advantages of working in HRLNG:

  • Working with a large group like HRLGN means that when one person does some work, anywhere in the country, it is shared with the others, not every person has to do do the same work. So it would be a big benefit to each state group to work with HRLNG because their group would grow faster.

  • We have a committee that is approaching News teams and large national groups like AARP, the National Association of Attorneys General, the National Association of Governors, etc. If one person from each state was to join that committee, that would be 50 people working to achieve their goals rather than just one.

  • A lot of the work that would need to be done by any state group has already been complete by HRLNG. New work can be completed more quickly with a large national group.

  • There are more ideas and “know how” in a larger group.

  • We can actively support each other in each states legislative efforts.

Membership Committee

  • Take our prewritten posts and post them on other existing HOA Reform groups inviting those WILLING TO TAKE ACTION to come to HRLNG   https://www.facebook.com/groups/hrlng.

  • Invite members from local HOAs and others that you know personally who ARE WILLING TO TAKE ACTION.

  • When people from your state join HRLNG they are referred to your group.

  • When you post to national social media groups, thousands of people are seeing your post.

  • Your post will cause people will be joining from many different States including yours, and likely in much larger numbers as it is a much larger audience.

  • As they come on and start posting, they will be bringing on members in all States including yours, but because there are more of them posting, they will bring on more members in total and more to your State.

  • Make sense?

  • Of course, if you have an existing list of people, in your State or anywhere in the USA, that you feel would be willing to ACTIVELY work to help change the laws, bring them on right away and have them help.

State Legislative Committee

  • The goal is to get both Republican and Democrat, Senators and House Representatives to write similar bills putting our Proposed Legislation into the bills. Then get all the HRLNG members in your state to write the legislators convincing them vote in favor of the bill.

  • One of our legislators wrote a bill that encompassed most of our Proposed Legislative Changes. Another said it was a better strategy to write one bill for each issue as it was easier to explain on concept at a time. You might discuss both with your legislator.

  • Find and read the HOA Laws of your state.

  • Read the Proposed Legislation.

  • Email and/or Phone legislators and present them with the Proposed Legislation.

  • Write a sample letter, post it, and ask the other HRLNG Members from your State to email and/or phone legislators to convince them to write/support the Bill.

State Community

  • Everyone in each state should belong to their State Community.  Join as soon as you join HRLNG!

  • Go to HLRNG Facebook, click on Browse in the top right corner.  This should create a drop down of all the Communities (vs Committees).

  • Search for HLRNG (Your State) Members. Join your State Community.

  • This will put you in touch with all the other members in your state.

  • Message your State Chair when you arrive and let them know you are here.

State Political Site Posting Committee

  • Find as many local political sites as possible on all platforms and share them with the National Membership team.

  • These political sites would have names like, Democrats of Tennessee, Republicans of Florida, Make Oregon Red, or Paint Wisconsin Blue. As HOA Reform is a totally non-partisan issue, we want to appeal to both sides and be sure not to discuss any other political issues.

  • Post HOA Horror stories, HOA news articles, etc. on the political sites.

    • This will inform the legislators, other officials and the general public in these political groups of the problems with HOAs and make it easier for the legislative teams when they contact the legislators.

    • The posts will also likely lead to more members joining us.

  • Include invitations for people willing to act to solve these HOA issues to join HRLNG with each post.

National News and Organizations Committee

  • Choose Large Organizations or New Media such as the National Association of Governors, National Association of Attorney’s General, AARP, National Real Estate Association, etc.

  • Research to find the CEO and legislative lobbying leader of the organization or interested reporter of the news media.

  • Phone or email them and get their phone and email address. Send them the Proposed Legislative Changes and ask for their support. We want them to lobby for these changes.

  • Add more State and National Organizations to the list and send them to Patrick Johansen, through Messenger to add to the National list so others in HRLNG will start writing and contacting them also.

National HOA Reform Group Locators Committee.

  • This is a National Group that searches the different platforms on the internet for other HOA Reform Groups and keeps adding them to our list for our membership team to contact.

National Thank You Committee

  • This group will write thank you sample letters to specific legislators throughout the country that have written Bills or taken actions that helped promoted our Proposed Legislative changes.

  • They will then coordinate with all our members to have members from across the country write thank you emails to that legislator, spread out over time so that the legislator gets a letter a day from different members thanking them.

National Technical Committee

  • Help with a variety of technical issues like working on the website, helping others with technical problems, etc.

National Admin and Research Committee

  • This group is national group to do administrative and research work.

  • Look up and post laws, maintain lists and other information on the website.

  • You can do small amounts, like just maintain one list, or you can do more.

Please contact Patrick Johansen through messenger and let him know what committee you would like to work with and what time you can put in per day, week, etc.
